Community Awards 2024

At the Annual Parish Meeting on March 20th, 2024, the following people were presented with Awards to mark their contribution to the life of Shevington.

Barry Pulford

“Barrie ‘Bazza’ Pulford for spearheading fundraising activities for charitable causes (both large and small) on behalf of the Plough & Harrow pub community and organising activities to lift people’s spirits during Covid.”

Gerard Hurst

“Gerard Hurst in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards education within the Parish for an unbelievable 27 years. As Chair of Governors for the Shevington Federation of Primary Schools, he has provided unrelenting support through some very challenging times.”

John Ball

“John Ball for over 30 years of service as a parish councillor. During this period he devoted himself to working for the greater benefit of the residents of his South Ward and the wider Parish. He served as both Vice Chairman and Chairman and was also a councillor on Wigan Council.”

Ira Whiteley

“Ira Whiteley for her many years of service as a parish councillor, latterly as, first, Vice Chairman, and then as Chairman. Ira has been a champion of our younger residents and was a founder member of the Friends of Shevington Memorial Park.”
